Geography

At Bourton Meadow we nurture every child to fulfil their whole potential.

Improved transport and advancements in technology have made the world even more accessible to our children, helping them to develop a growing interest in places beyond their local area. The geography curriculum draws on this natural curiosity and provides rich opportunities for children to develop their knowledge of diverse localities and the human and physical features that can be found there. They develop an appreciation of how people, places and environments have changed over time - and may change in the future - and they are encouraged to engage in real world issues, considering how they can make a positive impact. Learning in geography contributes to the children’s cultural capital, helping them to grow into successful citizens in a diverse society.

Fieldwork is an important component of the geography curriculum so we are looking to weave this through the different learning blocks to ensure that children are given regular opportunities to develop geographical skills such as map reading, collecting, analysing and communicating data and interpreting different sources of information.

Here are the end goals for our Geography curriculum

Because I went to Bourton Meadow Academy:

I know my place in the world and can locate places of geographical significance.
I appreciate the wider world and how it may differ from my own.
I am aware of current issues and know my impact on them and how I can positively contribute towards them.
I can articulate my understanding of the world around me and am curious to find out more.
