Prevent Duty for Schools

All schools are required to have arrangements in place to mitigate the risk posed by radicalisation, to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism. This statutory duty is known as ‘The Prevent Duty for Schools’.

At Bourton Meadow we recognise that safeguarding against radicalisation is no different to safeguarding against other risks.  It falls within our duty of care for safeguarding and is therefore everyone’s responsibility to be vigilant and to report concerns to a member of the Safeguarding Team.

Staff receive annual Prevent training and understand how certain circumstances can sometimes make people more vulnerable to radicalisation. They recognise signs that might indicate someone is being drawn into terrorism and know how to respond to these concerns.

The school’s six core values along with the Fundamental British Values provide a strong framework, and underpin all aspects of school life.

We protect children by promoting and celebrating diversity and equality within the community, to foster a sense of shared belonging. We provide safe ways for children to discuss issues relating to diversity and to speak out if they are aware of any form of discrimination or to challenge extremist views.
