Personal, Social, Health and Relationship Education

At Bourton Meadow we nurture every child to fulfil their whole potential.

At Bourton Meadow Academy, we recognise the value of Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE), which includes relationship education, and we offer a bespoke curriculum which is responsive to the ever-changing needs of our children. This means that we are constantly reviewing our curriculum and can add content or change the order of the units we teach to ensure that children learn aspects of the curriculum at the most appropriate time. This enables us to respond to the individual circumstances of our current cohort.

Our PSHE curriculum is structured around three key strands:

Health and Wellbeing (healthy lifestyles, self-esteem, dental hygiene)

Relationships (friendships, feelings, healthy relationships consent)

Living in the Wider World (rules, respect, responsibilities, safety, money)

A wide range of units are covered within each strand, with some examples shown in the brackets

above. Key themes are revisited as children move through the school, ensuring the curriculum is age-appropriate with opportunities for children to explore ideas in greater depth as they become older and prepare for the next stage of their journey.

We aim to motivate and educate children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society. Our PSHE closely links with our school values and aims to promote and prepare pupils to understand how they are developing personally and socially and how to tackle some moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up.

Here are the end goals for our PSHRE curriculum
Because I went to Bourton Meadow Academy:

I have the confidence to use my core beliefs and positive influences to make the right choices

I know what to expect from a healthy, loving relationship

I know how to look after myself both physically and emotionally, understanding how and who to seek help from when I need it.

I feel a valued member of society and embrace diversity

I can lead an independent life and show resilience to manage any challenges that come my way through the journey of life.
